I was intrigued by the 30 Day Song Challenge meme the first time I saw someone posted it on facebook. The challenge seemed to be simple, but for me to pick out only one song for each category would require a lot of time diving to all my mp3 (and perhaps even cassette tapes) collection, “measuring” them, and applying all sorts of strict procedures (since I can be a system freak) until I finally find one particular song that totally fits that category.
So I narrowed down my selection, giving them a specific time. I finally decided to take selection from only those which are contained in albums released in the year of 1997.
I actually only wanted to pick a year in which most of my favourite artists have their albums released. In 1997, most of my top-most favourite bands, including Pet Shop Boys, erasure, Depeche Mode, The Lightning Seeds, The Divine Comedy, Travis, Texas, and Morrissey, released their albums. So the year more or less represents my music preference.
The albums included in my playlist are not necessarily studio albums, they can also be compilation albums, like greatest hits, soundtrack, or one of those so-called alternative music compilation which were very popular in the 1990s. This gave me a more varied of choices, singles that are not particularly released in that year (for the “song from my childhood” challenge), song that I don’t really like (for the “least favourite song”), and song from the band that I don’t really like (for the “song from the band you hate”).
Anyway, here is the list of challenges:
day 01 – your favorite song
day 02 – your least favorite song
day 03 – a song that makes you happy
day 04 – a song that makes you sad
day 05 – a song that reminds you of someone
